By painting other people’s bodies, you are facing your own. Through this confrontation, in addition to color and light, the painter and teacher Ale Casanova deals with themes such as normality and intimacy. To do this, watercolor allows you to work more quickly and cleanly, since it is a versatile technique rich in solutions with which you can do everything you set out to do.
Together with Ale, you will learn to face the human figure using a simple technique to achieve results that are both traditional and contemporary. Thus, you will study different color palettes and combine the drawing and the watercolor stain. And, if you want to deepen your learning between brushes, he will also teach you Artistic Portrait in Watercolor and Oil Painting from scratch in his other two courses.
What does this course include?
To begin with, you will discover who Ale Casanova is, what his profession is and why he does it. He will also tell you about his way of seeing the world of painting, as well as his influences and the authors that are interesting for him to understand the evolution and role of watercolor within the world of the arts.
In the second unit, you will discover the different materials on the market and those necessary for the course. You will see how to prepare the paper before painting and you will practice a method of simplifying volumetric images that will allow you to draw them easily. In addition, you will explore reduced color palettes with primary colors and apply them to your project.
Next, you will develop a human figure based on a photograph taken in the studio. To do this, you will follow your teacher’s methodology combining different working methods. First, you will do the general wet-on-wet stains. Then, you will draw on dry and you will give some shades with pure colors. Lastly, Ale will teach you various types of reserve mask.
You will finish your piece looking for errors to improve, adjusting highlights and adding the dark maximums that will mark the necessary points to represent the volume. Once finished, you will learn how to unpick your work, protect it and store it so that it retains all its beauty.
